Water and electronics do not mix. But acting fast can dramatically improve your chances of saving a water-damaged phone.
Step 1: Power Off Immediately
Do not try to charge it or check if it works. Power the device off right away to prevent short circuits.
Step 2: Remove Accessories
Take off the case, remove the SIM tray, and any other removable parts. This helps air reach the internals.
Step 3: Dry the Exterior
Pat it down gently with a lint-free cloth. Avoid using a hair dryer, which can push water deeper into the device.
Step 4: Do NOT Use Rice
Despite the popular myth, rice does very little. It can actually introduce starch dust into your ports. Silica gel packets are slightly better, but professional cleaning is the real answer.
Step 5: Get Professional Help
A repair shop with ultrasonic cleaning equipment can properly flush corrosion-causing minerals from the circuit board. The sooner you bring it in, the better.
